Chairmen of All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 18 local government areas of Ondo State have warned against the imposition of a governorship candidate ahead of the party primary fixed for August 27, reportsThe Nation.
The chairmen called for a free and fair primary election ahead of the November 26 governorship election.
The party chieftains said any attempt to impose a candidate without allowing the delegates to decide might spell a doom for the party on election day.
The chairmen said the party would lose the governorship election in the state should they impose any candidate on the party as the people would prefer the rival Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) instead of any imposed APC candidate.
The Dean, Conference of APC Chairmen in the state, Rasheed Badums also warned against the alteration of the delegate list used for last year’s National Assembly primary of the party.
Recalled that 24 of the 25 aspirants on Wednesday kicked against a surreptitious plan by the party’s National Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to impose a candidate.
Tinubu is allegedly planning to impose Segun Abraham on the party as its governorship candidate in the state, reports News 24
The aspirants said such imposition by Tinubu was wrong as it would disrupt the normal democratic process of electing candidate for the party for the November 26 governorship election.
