Kieni MP, Kanini Kega has urged Cord leader Raila Odinga to stop hoodwinking Kenyans over the Kenya-Uganda sugar deal.
Kega said it is cheap politics to convince sugar farmers that they will lose and yet Kenya has been importing products worth billions of shillings for many years from Uganda including electricity.
“It is very hypocritical and unfair to decline products from Uganda and yet they import our products. He should keep away from sugar matters since he will not win this war,” he added.
“This is time for development not politics. He should wait for 2017 campaigns. It seems the opposition leader is not happy with the good work the Head of State is doing,” he added.
Kega, who was accompanied by former Kenya Dairy Board MD Machira Gichohi, was speaking at Mweiga stadium in his constituency during a specially organized local soccer tournament.
He said the mission of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s trip to Uganda was to discuss the LAPSET pipeline project.
Kega said that Uganda produces 500 000 metric tonnes of sugar and uses only 350 000 metric tonnes leaving a surplus of about 150 000 metric tonnes which Kenya should import instead of importing from as far as Brazil.
