Kenya: Sossion says teachers not opposed to job evaluation

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General, Wilson Sossion has said teachers are not opposed to job evaluation exercise as long as it is conducted by their employer, Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Speaking in Nairobi Monday, Sossion said they will not allow other institutions to meddle in the teachers’ affairs.

“TSC is the only body that should handle teachers’ issues. The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) is being misused by the government to interfere with the independence of TSC, this is unacceptable,” Sossion said.

According to Sossion, the teaching profession would be devalued if SRC takes up the exercise instead of TSC.

“Once SRC comes in, there will be no professionalism and this will greatly affect the quality of education in this country,” Sossion said.
