Manager Steven Gerrard on Thursday said he was looking forward to moving on after Bongani Zungu made a comeback as Rangers secured a place in the last 16 of the Europa League.
The Scottish giants secured their place in the next round of the competition thanks to their 5-2 win over Belgian side Antwerp at Ibrox to advance by a 9-5 aggregate score.
Zungu was named on the substitute’s bench alongside three of the five guilty squad members to have breached Covid-19 regulations and made an appearance in the 82nd minute.
The Bafana Bafana international was found to have been at a gathering with five other Rangers squad members with Gerrard now looking forward to move on from the incident.
When asked post-match on the impact of the three substitutes, Gerrard said: “We’re trying to draw the line and move forward from it.
“They’ve been punished internally and been spoken to and dealt with internally and we hope that they all learn from that moving forward.
“The quicker we can move on from it the better.”
The Liverpool legend added that he was keen to give the three a second chance and move on as a squad from the incident.
“As someone who has four kids myself I want to be someone who gives people a second chance,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“As a human being myself I’ve made similar mistakes so I hope that he [Nathan Patterson] learns from it and he has to take a little more punishment that comes his way.
“That goes for the three of them but it has been a whirlwind week and hopefully aids their development.”
With eight fixtures remaining in the Scottish Premiership, Rangers need just seven points to secure their first league title since the 2010/11 season.
