Johannesburg – A runway is closed at East London airport following a plane crash there on Wednesday morning, the Airports Company of SA (Acsa) said.”Around 10:15 this (Wednesday) morning, a private aircraft crashed on the main runway of East London airport. Due to the incident, we had to temporarily close that runway but the second runway is open for business,” spokesperson Colin Naidoo told News24.

“At this stage, we know there were two adults and three children on board. We are not aware at this stage of their condition and our response team is working first and foremost on the safety of those passengers, and to remove the aircraft from the runway.”
He said any incident is always investigated by the SA Civil Aviation Authority.
“They will do their investigation and then issue their report once it is finalised,” Naidoo said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Eastern Cape health department spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said the two adults on the plane were critically injured in the accident. The three children were also injured.
Provincial health services were at the scene.
