The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to stop its governors and other political office holders from appointing non-members of the party into political positions.
Indications to this are contained in the proposed amendment to the party’s constitution scheduled for debate on May 11.
The PDP National Executive Committee would meet on that date to ratify the numerous amendments made to the party’s constitution.
In the planned amendment, the NWC proposed that non-members of the party should not be giving political appointments.
Besides, the party also recommended that new defectors must spend at least one year in the party before they get political appointments.
If the proposal scales through, governors, members of the National Assembly and other elected political office holders may be compelled to either sack their workers who are not members of the party or be forced to join the party.
