Kenya Power will be rolling out a fast Fibre optic Internet network in December this year.
According to the Kenya Power Managing Director Ben Chumo, their aim is to give Kenyans fast and reliable Internet in their homes.
“In the first phase, we expect to connect 5 million households to the Internet before reaching out to to other Kenyans,” he said.
Speaking after a consultative meeting with Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet county MPs in Eldoret town, Chumo said they will work closely with Safaricom to carry out the project countrywide.
“Safaricom will lease more broadband infrastructure built and owned by Kenya Power to roll out the Fibre optic network,” he said.
Chumo added that Kenya Power poles will be used to tie cables where trenches cannot be dug.
He however urged Kenyans to protect the cables and report any form of vandalism to authorities.
