Eugene Wamalwa has quit the race to be the next Governor of Nairobi.
According to sources linked to the Water and irrigation CS and New Ford Kenya party, a compromise is close to being reached to let him seek a seat elsewhere.
It is rumoured he will instead go for the Trans Nzoia seat to allow Mike Mbuvi Sonko take on Evans Kidero for the Nairobi seat.
This is to stop an expected split in the party which is set to have a tough nomination process to seek the flag bearer to take on Kidero.
” Wamalwa has been convinced to leave Nairobi because the chances of Sonko winning are higher,” the source told News24.
An announcement will be made soon, the source added.
Wamalwa has bee backed by a number of Jubilee Party leaders to vie for the seat while others want someone who is from the city’s political circle to take over.
” No one has a grudge with anyone. We just want a grass root leader from the city to challenge Kidero and we have a number of good choices,” Starehe MP Maina Kamanda told News24.
Kamanda is said to be in support of a Sonko candidacy.
” I have no personal choice but we need to seek the type of leader who will give us the best chance to wrestle Nairobi from CORD,” he added.
That person, according to the pollsters and members of the public is Sonko.
