Johannesburg – Former Jozi FM DJ Donald Sebolai on Monday failed to give an answer when he was questioned on whether his girlfriend, Dolly Tshabalala, died after stabbing herself.Sebolai is on trial for murdering Tshabalala.
“What you are saying is that the deceased stabbed herself because she was in control of the knife and it was in her hand,” prosecutor Elize le Roux put to Sebolai.
“She was injured during the struggle for the knife,” he told the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Monday.
Sebolai testified that they had been pulling on the knife in opposite directions and he had been telling her to drop it.
At this point, Tshabalala had already stabbed him in the hand, accusing him of cheating on her.
She died after sustaining a stab wound from her pubic area to her thigh.
A pathologist who previously testified in the trial stated that the wound had punctured a vein and artery.
The depth of the stab wound showed that great force had been used to inflict it.
Tshabalala died from massive blood loss.
Sebolai said he had been shocked to see the blood coming from his girlfriend.
He gave her a towel to place pressure on the wound and lay her on his bed while he mopped the floor of her blood.
“I did not know that Dolly would bleed to death,” Sebolai said.
“Had it been that she was injured on any other part of the body, maybe it would have made sense to me but I thought it was just her thigh,” he said.
Le Roux criticised him for failing to rush her to a hospital which is just 900 metres from his block of flats.
Sebolai again blamed this on shock.
“I explained in my evidence that when I saw Dolly had given up, I became even more shocked,” he said.
Sebolai was on trial for murdering Tshabalala. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
