Johannesburg – The ANC released its National General Council documents on Monday, just over two months before its mid-term conference.“These documents are intended to guide deliberations and provide a critical assessment of the work done to date,” chairperson of the ANC national executive committee policy sub-committee Jeff Radebe told reporters in Johannesburg.
“Most importantly they seek that jointly, we may formulate responses to the challenges facing us in our quest to reduce unemployment, inequality and eliminate poverty.”
The NGC comes two-and-a-half years after the ANC’s 2012 Mangaung conference.
It will be held from October 9 to 12 at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, Gauteng.
The NGC would assess progress made in implementing the resolutions taken in 2012, analyse challenges encountered and lessons learnt and identify challenges, Radebe said.
Nine discussion documents were released.
They are:
– Balance of forces
– Economic transformation
– Education and health
– Legislature and governance
– Social transformation
– The battle of ideas, media transformation and diversity, and accelerating the digital future
– Peace and stability
– International relations
– Rural development and land reform
“The National General Council shall be a platform for critical political engagement,” said Radebe.
Around 3 000 people were expected to participate in the NGC of which 2 500 would be delegates representing branches of the ANC.
