Chief Justice Willy Mutunga celebrates his 69th birthday today, which is also his last day in office.
Willy Mutunga resigns a year before his constitutional retirement age, even as his deputy Kalpana Rawal and Supreme Court Judge Philip Tunoi are entangled in retirement age row.
Mutunga took office in June 2011 and was expected to retire just two months before the next general election.
His retirement and the subsequent termination of his deputy leaves Justice Mohammed Ibrahim as the senior most judge to head the Judiciary, Capital FMreports.
Kenyans have taken to twitter to bid CJ Mutunga goodbye and also wish him a happy birthday.
