Tusk: Recriminations on migration crisis must end

Brussels – EU President Donald Tusk called on European leaders to hold a migration debate based on facts, not emotions, saying their crisis talks must focus on regaining control of the bloc’s external borders.

“We have now reached a critical point where we need to end this cycle of mutual recriminations and misunderstandings. Today our debate must be based on facts, not illusions and emotions,” he said in Brussels ahead of a migration summit.

“The most urgent question we should ask ourselves tonight is how to regain control of our external borders, otherwise it doesn’t make any sense to even speak about a common European migration policy,” Tusk added, noting that “millions of potential refugees” could try to reach Europe.

“A concrete plan must finally appear in place of the arguments and the chaos we have witnessed in the last weeks,” he adds.
