Stray Lion Spotted In Karen

Kenya Wildlife Service officers are tracing a stray lion that was spotted at Hardy area in Karen today.

The lion was allegedly spotted around Midnight but rescue operations were launched after day break, The Star reports.

The conservation agency also cautioned members of the public to be vigilant, and asked members to report any sighting via 0800 597 000 or 0800 221 5566.

They posted on Twitter: “We have sent our teams to Hardy area in Karen, Nairobi, following unconfirmed reports of a lion being sighted. Public asked to be cautious.”

Cases of human-wildlife conflict have increased in the recent past, with over five lions wandering out of the Nairobi National Park to the neighbouring Estates.

It is reported that the sanctuary has about 40 lions, forcing them to move out to hunt.

KWS has however promised to translocate half of the lions in the sanctuary in order to curb human-wildlife conflicts.
