The Minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu, on Monday disclosed that Nigeria loses about $287 million to software piracy annually, reported The Nation.
However, Shittu who was speaking at a programme organized by the League of Veteran Journalists in Ibadan. Oyo State, said his ministry will continue to enforce the promotion of creativity in Nigeria. He said further Nigeria is prepared to train its youth and enhance their information and Communication Technology (ICT) capacity building and skill acquisition.
“We believe we can considerably increase government receipts within the sector,” he said, adding that a technology savvy workforce and SMART government play pivotal role in raising revenue for government, improving efficiency, eliminating waste and generating employment for Nigeria’s teeming masses.
According to The Nigerian Voice, Shittu noted in January 2016, that ICT contributes about 9.58 per cent as much to GDP as Oil and Gas and was the fastest growing sector of the Nigerian economy.
