Dancehall musician Samini has landed in trouble after an old video of him criticizing celebrities who endorsed political parties in the run-up to the 2016 elections. In the video, Samini stated clear reasons why he would not join those celebrities.
According to him, it was wrong for them to do that because they are held in high esteem by people with diverse political affiliations.
Samini during an interview at the offices of YEN.com.gh. Therefore, declaring publicly their affiliation to a political party is sure to affect their fan base and their career going forward. Samini also said that should anything go bad during the election, the celebrities’ house is a sure target, therefore, it was wrong for any celebrity to be attached to a political party.
Unfortunately, Samini seems to have forgotten his words as he has publicly declared his support for the NPP and President Akufo-Addo in the 2020 elections. He earlier revealed that he was supporting the NPP because he believes the party is the best for Ghana.
Samini went on to release a song to praise the president and his party. The video has thus sparked a heated debate among fans who have called him names: Austin accused Samini of holding double standards, stressing that he abhors that.
Atigya, and Freddy however, defended Samini saying only fools don’t change their minds. Meanwhile, some of Samini’s fans have threatened to unfollow him because he decided to pitch camps with the NPP. Others, however, have supported his endorsement saying that there is nothing wrong if Samini decides to support the NPP.
