Reasons Why Kenyans Don’t Fight Over Election

KENYA FLAG
FLAG

The record of Kenya’s Political Landscape is one defined with unrepentant dishonesties, outright lies very carefully choreographed as reality that is typically repackaged as extreme publicity, murders, constant unsupported claims, and also outright conceit. It is an unclean online game, or two it has actually been claimed. It is a cruel game with unfair rules that many  electorate is yet to know.

A jubilee on after independence, the story is no better. The latter day politician is in fact a perfect embodiment of his former nemesis. Only that this modern species is a lot greedier, subtler, with an enormous, yet insatiable thirst and hunger for overnight riches. The latter day politician is a typical bourgeoisie obsessed with status quo, and ever ready to kill, main, torture, or even evict…. The latter day politician is both certified illiterate, and PhD holder whose sole aim in life is to satisfy his or her huge ego by amassing as much wealth as time, connections, and situations can permit.

Yet sane men and women continue electing such a crop of leaders into political offices. Why? Some can’t just help it! Such is the apathy that sadly defines the latter day electorate. Some argue it is a cultural practice that one must never run away from.  Is blatant dishonesty, incessant thieving tendencies, and sheer disregard of the rules of the law really a part of our culture?

The never-dying ‘BIG MAN’ syndrome inherited from the pre-independence disfranchised electorate is reason enough to conclude that as a people, we still have a very long way to go. Yes! That we still consider the size of someone’s tummy, or the depth of his or her pocket before voting, is reason enough to believe that the long journey to freedom land is just beginning.

Why should anyone care? Are leaders not chosen by God? Not exactly…. And care we must! Or do we want to simply play witnesses to a state taken hostage by an army of selfish hyenas? What will we tell our future generations when they demand for those uncomfortable answers? That we couldn’t just help it?

2017 is just around the corner. I should trust we are much wiser now. Thanks to the increasingly alert media, and the blessing of social media, the Kenyan electorate has undeniably discovered the dirt, filth and ugliness of the political elite!

With the exception of a few blue cows here and there, the majority, those very bad beans, are hell-bend to arm-twist he electorate once again come 2017…. We have an opportunity as a people to remind them that it should never be business as usual! As electorates, we have the power to take charge of the destiny of our constituents and the nation at large by embracing leaders espousing integrity, sincerity, and willing to be servants and not our new baas, memsabs…. We have the choice of refusing to be easily hoodwinked, blackmailed, and used as mere springboards. We have the choice to change Kenya for the better!
