Kenya is likely to be engaged in a diplomatic spat with Tanzania and South Sudan after MPs allied to Jubilee sensationally claimed that heads of the two states are funding opposition Chief Raila Odinga to destabilize the government.
Starehe MP, Maina Kamanda on Sunday told Journalists in Nairobi that Presidents John Magufuli (Tanzania) and Salva Kiir (South Sudan) are bankrolling Raila to stage a coup against President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Raila has been touring all over the region. We are aware that he is is seeking funds from the Tanzanian and South Sudan governments with an intention of destabilizing Kenya. We will not allow anything like that to happen,” warned Kamanda.
He was accompanied by MPs Dennis Waweru (Dagoretti South) and John Ndiarangu (Embakasi West) when he made the statement at a press briefing at a Nairobi Hotel.
On Monday, the government spokesman Eric Kiraithe buttressed the point and announced that there are individuals who are working with Kenya’s neighbours to cause mayhem and chaos in the country.
“We have intelligence reports that there is a wider scheme by some individuals who are working with the some nearby countries to create instability, insecurity, lawlessness and civil strife,” said Kiraithe who did not give names.
In what is likely to spark a diplomatic row between Kenya and the countries, Kiraithe spoke of a wider scheme to “create conditions of instability, insecurity, lawlessness and strife.”
“Let the schemer know that these are acts of treason and betrayal,” he warned, noting that the government will soon be revealing the names of the persons involved in the nefarious activity.
