CORD leader Raila Odinga is behind President Uhuru Kenyatta acording to opinion polls. But why?
The opinion polls carried by Infotrak which saw 1,800 people interviewed over the month of March saw the President carry a full 11 point lead over Raila if the elections were held today.
Why?
According to the pollster, the CORD leader is lagging behind for one simple reason. He is not campaigning in places that are not his strongholds.
In the last one year, it has been noted that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto have campaigned in opposition strongholds unlike the CORD leader.
The President and Ruto have campaigned in western Kenya, the Coast, some areas of the Rift Valley as well as Nyanza and Eastern Kenya.
The CORD leader on the ogther hand has rarely done so.
The different moves have thus ensured that the ruling coalition gains in friends, which is not the case for Raila and the opposition.
Political analyst Michael Njenga believes that the CORD leader is missing a trick.
” The government has not been doing at all well and this could thus have been a very good opportunity for the opposition to make inroads,” he said.
” They have not though. They have been centering on their own strongholds which beats logic,” he added.
