– The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) formally took over the party’s national secretariat on Wednesday, reports Daily Post.

The board said it has taken over the leadership of the party pending the resolution of the leadership tussle in the fold.

Addressing staff members of the party at the National Secretariat in Abuja, the BoT Chairman, Walid Jibrin said the action of the BoT became imperative in order not to allow vacuum in the party’s operations as well as to resolve the leadership crisis currently rocking the party internally.

He promised that the board would do everything to ensure that normalcy returns to the party as soon as possible.

Daily Trust reports that Jibrin explained that ‎the BoT would not take over anybody’s office at the secretariat, but that they would be meeting in any hall to run the party.

Jibrin said‎ the leadership crisis would not affect the fielding of candidates for the forth-coming elections in Edo State, slated for October, 2016.

On how they got the legitimacy to take over the party,  secretary of the BoT, Amb Ojo Madueke, said nobody had gone to court to challenge their ineligibility,

With this development, the BoT has usurped the chairmanship position of the party, which is being contested by Sen Ali Modu Sheriff, Sen Ahmed Makarfi as well as Sen Ibrahim Mantu and Prof Tunde Adeniran.
