One person died Monday evening after an ambulance hit a landmine at Owane town in Garissa County.
Abbey Dubow Mohamed was in the company of three others who were on their way to pick a patient for referral to the Hulugho sub-County hospital when the incident happened.
While confirming the incident, Garissa County Governor said the ambulance died on the spot while the three medics who were on board the ambulance sustained serious injuries.
In his condolence message, he said: “On behalf of the people and the government of Garissa County, I wish to convey my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr Abbey Dubow Mohamed, who met his untimely death today evening while executing his duties as an ambulance driver working for the Garissa County Government.”
The injured are undergoing treatment at the Hulugho sub-county hospital.
This happened just a few hours after Al Shabaab attacked a police vehicle at Elwak in Mandera, killing four officers.
The officers were escorting a bus when the militants hit their vehicle with a rocket-propelled grenade. It exploded into flames killing four officers and leaving five others with injuries.
