ODM Leader Summoned Over Plot To Overthrow The Government

Police have summoned Nairobi ODM chairman George Aladwa over plot to overthrow the government.

Aladwa was summoned alongside Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati and former Raila Odinga’s aide Caroli Omondi to record statements over claims that they were organising youths to help Raila overthrow the government.

These allegations were made by a University student who allegedly told court in February that he was among youths who had been recruited by the ODM leaders to destabilize the government in 2017, The Star reports.

According to the plan, the youths would be trained in South Sudan and later join hands with Riek Machar forces to overthrow Jubilee.

This comes just a few days after a group of eight MPs were charged with hate speech.

The politicians were released after four days in police custody.

MPs Moses Kuria and Ferdinand Waititu, who are repeat offenders were released on a KES 5 million bond each or an equivalent cash bail of KES 2 million.

On the other hand, the other MPs Kimani Ngunjiri, Junet Mohammed, Aisha Jomvu, Florence Mutua and Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama were handed a KES 2 million bond or a cash bail of KES 300,000.

They will be expected to cooperate fully with Police and court officials when required to, they were told.
