Both motorcycles and tricycles have been banned in the Gokana and Khana LGAs of Rivers State in the lead-up to a historic visit by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, June 2.
According to a Naij report, all operations of motorcycles and tricycles will be suspended from 6 am to 6 pm on Thursday in a bid to keep the peace and ensure that the President’s visit goes smoothly.
“The security agencies have been directed to enforce this ban and ensure full compliance,” announced State Governor Nyesom Wike.
Wike has described Buhari’s upcoming visit as “historic”, due to it being his first visit to the state since taking up his seat in office, as well as the visit marking the largest clean-up in Nigeria’s history, Premium Times reports.
Security agencies across Rivers have since been directed to arrest any person, regardless of social standing, who seeks to exploit Buhari’s visit or undermine prevailing peace and security.
