Nigeria: Governor Dickson Denies Plans To Sack Workers

Bayelsa – Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has denied claim that his administration intended to sack 500 workers for supporting the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) during the recently concluded gubernatorial election in the state, Punch reports.

Speaking through his deputy, Rear Admiral John Jonah (retd.), during that  the monthly Transparency Briefing in Government House, Yenagoa, on Thursday, the governor dismissed the speculation as an unwarranted fear.

He said the ongoing workers’ verification was not targeted at retrenching workers for their partisan posture before and after the governorship poll.

Dickson said though the decision of some civil servants to openly campaign for political parties of their choice was wrong and against the Civil Service Rule, the government did not give any directive for sanctions and stoppage of salaries of such workers.

He stated that the verification being conducted by the establishment committee is to look inwards and examine how administration has fared over the years.
