The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confiscated three mansions owned by the Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema, Nation reports.
The anti-graft agency said the assets were seized over Shema’s alleged involvement in a N74.6billion fraud.
Operatives of the anti-graft agency stormed Katsina on Monday following preliminary interaction with the ex-governor.
The detectives sealed off the ex-governor’s houses at 1 GRA Modoji Road, Barhim Estate, Madachi Road and Makera Estate, Kirni Road.
The EFCC said it acted based on Section 28 of the EFCC Act which reads: ‘Where a person is arrested for an offence under this Act, the Commission shall immediately trace and attach all the assets and properties of the person acquired as a result of such economic or financial crime and shall afterwards cause to be obtained an interim attachment order from the Court.’
The agency had last week seized the passport of the former governor according to News24.
Shema is being investigated by the commission for misappropriating N75 billion when he was governor of the state between 2007 and 2015.
The anti-graft agency declared the ex-governor wanted after the allegations levelled against him by his successor, Governor Aminu Masari.
