Abuja – Following accusations by the Niger Delta Avengers that there was a story by high ranking authorities in the Nigerian Army to topple President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, the armed force has actually currently begun keeping track of the phone calls as well as messages of soldiers, Naij files.
General Officer Commanding, Major-General Isidor Edet revealed this while sending out a warning to soldiers that they were now being monitored during the Interdenominational church Service at Saint Charles Lwanga Catholic Church.
“The Chief of Army Staff, COAS wants us to remind ourselves that at this critical point in our national life, and especially in Lagos and the Military where there are rumours of a Coup d’etat, whether they are perceived or real, that as soldiers we should be very careful of the company we keep,” he Edet said.
News24 Nigeria reported that militant groups claimed that high-ranking army officials had approached them saying that plans were in place to stage a coup against the Buhari administration.
The army then released a statement saying that it would indeed be investigating the claims and any possible motives behind it.
