The leadership of Mount Kenya Assembly caucus has exonerated Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria from any wrongdoing following accusations that he made inflammatory remarks last weekend.
The caucus Secretary General, Alhaji Mwendia has said that Kuria was protecting his community against maiming by leaders from other tribes.
Speaking outside Nyeri County Assembly, Mwendia said Kuria has a responsibility of protecting his community.
“If Kuria will be charged, he should be charged as a Kenyan not as a Kikuyu. He was protecting his community. We should also see police charging opposition politicians including Johnstone Muthama, Junet Mohamed and George Aladwa who have been making hate remarks without action,” said Mwendia.
He accused the National Commission for Cohesion and Integration (NCIC) of being biased in its crackdown on hate speech.
“When a person from a certain tribe speaks, the Kaparo-led commission moves fast but leaders from other tribes go scot-free. We want uniform application of law,” he added.
Mwendia was flanked by the caucus chairman, Duncan Gituanja who is also the Nyeri County Assembly Majority Leader among other leaders.
Gituanja said remarks made by elected leaders could be a recipe for anarchy if not tamed.
