CORD leader Raila Odinga is scheduled to begin a tour of the rift valley region on October 1 in a bid to woo the region into voting for him in the 2017 general elections.
According to ODM director of constitutional affairs Kipkorir Arap Menjo, Raila is scheduled to meet elders from counties within rift valley and convince them to help him popularise his candidature.
Menjo said during the tour, Raila is also expected to launch a new strategy that he will use in wooing the rift valley voters ahead of the 2017 polls.
He added that Raila intends to use Kalenjin elders as his pointmen in the Jubilee stronghold as he prepares to take what is seen as his last stab at the presidency.
“He (Raila) has confirmed he will be touring all the counties in rift valley from October 1 and he will be meeting elders whom he wants to use in 2017. He wants to convince the elders to help him solicit for votes in 2017 and we believe this new strategy will work,” said Menjo.
“He needs the rift valley votes and he needs to work extra hard to get them, and that is why he has put in place a new strategy to achieve that,” he said.
Raila lost his footing in the riftvalley region after his pointmen from the region decamped to the ruling coalition.
