Kenya: No personal problem between Ruto and Raila

There is no personal problem between Deputy President William Ruto and CORD leader Raila Odinga, both leaders have stated.

There has been talk of the two leaders being at serious loggerheads over a series of issues starting with their political affiliations to other pertinent issues.

The latest has been the small matter of the Kenya-Uganda Sugar deal.

Both leaders though, have stressed that the public face of their issues is just that. A face.

Respect levels are still there.

” There is no issue between me and Ruto. We are on opposite sides. In the past we were on the same side. It does not mean there is a personal issue,” Raila said Thursday in Nairobi.

” I do hat I do,m which is defend the interests of Kenyans and if it means that I clash with him, then so be it, but it is not a war,” he added.

On his part, Ruto has stressed that he understands Raila has an important role to play in the country and its political setting.

” I have no problem with Raila Odinga his duty in the Opposition is to criticize the Government. But our duty is to deliver on our pledges,” he said in a statement Friday.

The two leaders were together as part of the Orange Democratic Movement ODM in the 2007 General Elections but fell out in the aftermath, with Ruto eventually joining forces with President Uhuru Kenyatta for the 2013 elections.
