The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is willing to go home if the political players will not get a solution to the current crisis surrounding it.
IEBC chairman Issack Hassan on Monday said they cannot force themselves to carry out the next poll in 2017.
The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) has called for the disbandment of the commission accusing it of being biased. Cord gave President Uhuru Kenyatta up to Wednesday night to address their concerns over dialogue into IEBC issue failure to which they will storm the streets on Thursday.
Speaking in Mombasa, Hassan said the current IEBC team will not be the first to be sent home.
“It is not the first time a commission is being disbanded and there is nothing we can do about. Let us cross the bridge when we get there,” Hassan said.
“This commission has conducted elections and we know where the problems were and where there were failures. We have made improvements but we have nothing to do if the political players decide we go,” he added.
The chair however said disbanding the commission just a year to the polls is not the best thing to do and urged political leaders to look for a political solution to the matter.
