A Chief on Thursday stunned a Nyeri court after he pleaded guilty to charges of being drunk and disorderly.
David Nderitu Mwihungi, the sub-Chief of Chorong’i sub-location in Nyeri town constituency shocked many of those in the courtroom when he quickly admitted to charges of being drunk and disorderly.
However, he instead blamed the vice on his poor health saying he had a serious problem had forced him to turn to alcoholism.
The prosecution led by Inspector Bange Patience told Principal Magistrate Desiderius Orimba that the chief was arrested within Nyeri town.
According to the charge sheet, Mwihungi was accused that on August 25 he was found drunk, shouting and staggering.
But immediately after the charges were read, the Chief quickly defended himself saying he had a health problem that needed to be addressed.
“Your honour I have a health challenge which has been bothering me, for instance right now my head is aching so badly and I do not know what to do,” Mwihungi noted.
However, the magistrate ordered for a probation report to be produced in court within the short time possible before he could deliver his verdict.
