Jason Derulo Lands in Hospital to Cut Off Fitness Tracking Ring That Swelled His Finger

Jason Derulo was taken to the hospital after his finger swelled due to a fitness-tracking smart ring he was wearing. According to PEOPLE, the Oura ring, which is made of titanium, is worn by celebrities such as Prince Harry and Kim Kardashian.

However, Derulo’s experience with the device after acquiring it did not appear to be positive, as the singer was unable to remove it from his finger. On Tuesday, the 33-year-old announced the purchase of the ring on Instagram, but with a tired face emoji.

The Swalla singer is seen in the video elevating his right hand from a champagne bucket filled with ice. “Woke up, finger was swollen, it’s turning colors,” he explains, as his pal laughs at his situation.

“I was like, damn. Trying to figure out how to take this damn ring off,” he adds. “It just got swollen overnight. I tried to take it off with oil.” And though the singer also said the swelling “came down a little” bit after icing it, a gym session he subsequently had made the finger “swell up even more so.”

Later in the video, someone tries to remove the ring after spraying it. That, unfortunately, does not function. “We’re going to the hospital, and we’ll cut it off,” the singer’s medical staff tells him at his home.

The footage then cuts to Derulo at the hospital, where a medical staff is treating his swollen finger. The team can be seen attempting to cut the ring, with one of them informing the singer, “It will take one or two minutes.”

After an hour, though, the singer remarked that the ring was “not off yet.” It also appeared that the effort to remove the ring from Derulo’s swollen finger was painful for him, as he was heard responding in pain.

The singer was, however, later relieved after the ring was eventually cut off from his swollen finger. “Thank you guys!” Derulo is heard telling the medical team. He also shows his gratitude by giving them fist-bumps.
