The Council of Governors chairman, Peter Munya has asked government to allow opposition leaders to conduct their Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Park grounds in Nairobi.
Munya, who is also the Meru County Governor, said that there is no problem with CORD leaders marking the day in their own way.
“Even us we normally go to the counties to join others in celebrations. As long as it is being held within the country, there is no problem. In fact even the ambassadors outside the country celebrate the day,” said Munya.
He spoke in Nyeri at Hiriga village after visiting and taking a goodwill message to Governor Gachagua who is ailing.
He was accompanied by governors Mwangi wa Iria (Murang’a), Joshua Irungu (Laikipia), Waithaka Mwangi (Nyandarua) and John Murutu of Taita Taveta.
The governors also said they will hold a meeting in Nairobi on June 6 and 7 in order to chart the way forward regarding the upcoming general elections among other issues.
