German coach Jurgen Kohler has officially applied for the vacant Black Stars coaching vacancy.
Following negotiations with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kohler submitted his proposal to the five-member search committee by February 2, 2024.
According to local media, Kohler’s interest in the post arose from the GFA’s formal approach, which was supported by Mark Addo, its vice president. Although not a formal job offer, the talk gave Kohler the feeling that he would be considered if he applied, despite his lack of coaching experience.
Kohler, who holds a UEFA Pro License, previously worked as a caretaker coach at FC Viktoria Koln in 2019. Despite his lack of top-level coaching experience, his application demonstrates his enthusiasm to take on the job of leading the Black Stars.
The choice is now in the hands of the search committee, which will evaluate candidates for this important coaching position.
He previously led the German U21 team, was the director of football at Bayern Leverkusen from March 2003 to June 2004, managed MSV Duisburg, and was the director of football at German third-tier club vfR Aalen.
During his playing career, Kohler won the World Cup with Germany and the UEFA Champions League with Borussia Dortmund.
The GFA’s five-member committee entrusted with picking the next Black Stars coach will review Kohler’s application, as well as any others that come in after it.
GFA Vice President Mark Addo chairs the committee, and legal practitioner Ace Ankomah serves as his vice.
