Elsewedy Electric, a multinational cable and electrical equipment manufacturing company led by Egyptian businessman Ahmed El-Sewedy, has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Switzerland’s Bühler Group, a well-known technology firm, and IBC Group to modernize and expand grain storage facilities in Egypt.
This effort supports the Egyptian government’s food security objective of localizing grain silo manufacture. This would improve food security, promote sustainable agricultural growth, and reduce post-harvest losses in the country.
Egypt, the world’s top wheat importer, suffers substantial grain storage issues, resulting in post-harvest losses estimated at 10 to 30 percent. These losses have an impact on food security and affect the country’s finances.
Elsewedy Electric’s CEO and president, Ahmed El-Sewedy, stressed the partnership’s significance: “Our collaboration with Bühler Group and IBC demonstrates our commitment to nationalizing vital industries and harnessing the knowledge of foreign firms.
“By focusing on important industries like grain silos, we hope to deepen component manufacture and transfer from imports to domestic production. This agreement will also pave the road for exports, strengthening Egypt’s position in regional food security,” Ahmed El Sewedy said.
Elsewedy Electric, founded in 1938, has become a dominant power in the electrical equipment manufacturing sector, with a considerable impact on projects throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
The El-Sewedy family still owns a significant portion of Elsewedy Electric, with a total share of 68.1 percent. El-Sewedy and his siblings Sadek and Mohammed together own 1,478,358,330 ordinary shares, worth more than $1 billion.
Elsewedy Electric and Bühler Group have teamed up to transform grain storage options. The strategic alliance combines Elsewedy’s engineering and construction skills with Bühler’s cutting-edge grain processing technologies. The combined endeavor intends to incorporate digital technologies and automation systems into storage facilities, streamlining procedures, reducing errors, and increasing overall efficiency.
The signing of this Cooperation Agreement demonstrates Elsewedy Electric’s persistent commitment to enhancing food security and resilience, particularly in Egypt and the larger African area. This relationship is a big step forward in the company’s continued pursuit of agricultural innovation and sustainable development.
