Senate President Bukola Saraki has revealed that details of the 2016 national budget will be made available to members of the public as of next week, Punch has reported.
According to a statement released by Saraki’s Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Muhammed Isa, the Senate President was quoted as saying “for the first time, we promised Nigerians to give out our budget breakdown. The committee will make its report available by next week. We are resolved to break the tradition of one line item.”
In addition, Saraki has also pledged his support to President Muhammadu Buhari in his fight against corruption in the country.
Speaking on behalf of the Senate, Saraki ensured Buhari that all members are ready to partner with him to achieve success in the anti-graft war.
Saraki also spoke on economic issues in his statement, revealing that the Senate has embarked on a series of legislative interventions to create a “conducive environment” for the private sector.
“It is only when the private sector thrives that the issue of unemployment will be addressed and the nation’s GDP will increase,” he stated.
