Bloemfontein – The DA’s urgent court application to interdict the Free State Provincial Department of Human Settlements to halt payments to Blackhead Consulting for the eradication of asbestos roofing in the province has been unsuccessful. In the Free State Division of the High Court, Judge Corne van Zyl ruled that the application was not urgent.
The provincial government awarded a tender to Blackhead to replace all asbestos roofing on houses in the province. The DA believes that the contract awarded to Blackhead is irregular.
“The DA notes Judge Van Zyl’s verdict, and while we are disappointed in the outcome, we will scrutinise Judge Van Zyl’s judgment,” Leona Kleynhans, DA member of the legislature, said.
The provincial Department of Human Settlements could not be reached for comment on Friday afternoon.
