The presidency might have opened the way for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to go ahead and investigate former president Goodluck Jonathan.
According to Punch, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina said the EFCC did not need the president’s approval to probe Jonathan.
Adesina said the presidency had given the anti-corruption body a “free hand” to investigate and prosecute anyone involved in corrupt activities.
“The President does not teleguide the EFCC in any way,” Adesina was quoated as saying.
Adesina said this after he was asked to comment on an allegation that Buhari had been reluctant to grant permission to the EFCC to investigate Jonathan.
