Just few months after Sauti Sol ranted and later apologized about their project being hijacked and championed by a government appointed Jamaican reggae star in Kenya, Kenyans who got it all wrong also took to social media to speak up against the appointment of Ugandan star, Eddy Kenzo as Kenya’s Tourism brand ambassador.
At face value, appointing a Ugandan as Kenyan Tourism Ambassador sounds wrong, but the Chief Executive of the Kenya Tourism Board, Dr Betty Adero Radier has explained that Eddy was appointed because Ugandan tourists contribute a very big percentage to the total number of tourists visiting Kenya and they decided to appoint Eddy Kenzo because many people in the region understand him very well.
The board appointed Eddy Kenzo to tap into his huge social media following and acceptance by Ugandans, as a means to attract more Ugandans to Kenya.
King Kaka was one of the Kenya stars who criticized the move, but he later congratulated Eddy after getting a better perspective of the goal of the board.
