Burna Boy Becomes the First African Artist to Sell Out a U.S Stadium

Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning Nigerian musician, has created history yet again in the United States, where he delighted fans with the sounds from his last four music albums – Outside, African Giant, Twice As Tall, and Love Damini.

According to Hot 97, the self-proclaimed ‘African Giant’ sold out New York City’s 41,000-seat Citi Field Stadium on Saturday, July 8.

His sister, Nissi, opened the music event, and British rapper, Dave, also appeared and joined Burna Boy to perform their joint song, Location. The Nigerian singer also gave a sneak preview of his new tune, ‘Big 7.’

This recent achievement is one of his many history-making events in recent times. After the show, Burna Boy took to his Instagram page to chronicle his journey in New York.

He said “I’m truly speechless. Last night was a movie. Thank you New York.” He added, “PlayStation Theatre – 2017, Gramercy Theatre – 2018, The Apollo – 2019, Madison Square Garden – 2022, Cranfield Stadium – 2023. What a journey, Glory to God.”

In late 2022, Burna Boy traversed the Caribbean Islands, where he performed at different locations. Hot 97 also reported that the Afrobeats singer became the first African act to headline stadia in Trinidad, Antigua, and Jamaica.
