CORD leaders are currently having talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto at State House Nairobi.
CORD has confirmed that Uhuru invited the CORD co-Principals Raila Odinga Wetang’ula for dialogue at State House.
The CORD leaders joined Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto, Majority Leader Aden Duale, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery and visiting South Korean President Park Geun-hye for lunch.
The ruling coalition Jubilee and opposition CORD have been at loggerheads over various issues, with the main bone of contention being the IEBC.
Cord has been demanding the removal of IEBC commissioners alleging they cannot conduct a free and fair election, something that prompted them to organise weekly demos every Monday since April 25.
However, the government has opposed the demos with the Interior CS threatening the opposition leaders with arrest, until last week when the coalition suspended the demos following the murder of several of their supporters and arrest of some leaders for participating in the demos.
CORD said they were ready for dialogue, and the first meeting towards resolving the impasse was held on Monday at Lilian towers.
Today, the President held out an olive branch to the opposition leaders by inviting them to State House for dialogue over the same.
This invitation came even as the South Korean President arrived in the country for a three-day visit.
CORD and Jubilee have also been fighting over Uhuru Park in the recent days, after CORD announced plans to hold a rally at the venue on Wednesday as the President leads the Nation in marking Madaraka Day in Nakuru.
