Clerics in Rivers State have raised an alarm, claiming that suspected Fulani herdsmen armed with weapons have invaded the forests in the region and aim to launch attacks on the state, Vanguard reports.
Further claims were made that the herdsmen are intimidating rural land owners and have already acquired land for grazing.
Residents of the state were urged by clerics to be vigilant in their daily businesses in the forests and to be weary of any attacks.
The Sun previously reported that grazing is illegal in the region on land that was not declared farms by the state.
A group of Niger agitators also previously gave the Fulani herdsmen a 14-day ultimatum to vacate the region.
