Angola: Military Offensive weakened operational capacity of Boko Haram

Luanda – The regional military offensive against the radical Boko Haram, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, weakened the operational capacity of the terrorist group said on Thursday, in Luanda, the minister of Foreign Affairs, Georges Chikoti.

Georges Chikoti made this statement while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 40th Ministerial Meeting of the Permanent Consultative Committee of the United Nations In charge of security issues in Central Africa (UNSAC) to examine the issues of security and conflicts in the African region.

“We must remain vigilant and mobilized against a scourge that threatens the rule of law, security and limit democracy and fundamental freedoms. The proliferation of light weapons, funding of erratic and armed groups should continue to deserve our particular attention, “said the minister.

According to the minister, the discussion of the various agenda items should lead to adoption of appropriate measures to support the initiatives and improve coherence and coordination of United Nations actions and regional and sub-regional for peace, security and sustainable development.

“Africans need to live in a secure environment and stability to devote himself exclusively to the development and economic and social well-being of citizens,” he said.

The minister regretted that the meeting take place in a context marked by the prevalence of conflicts and important challenges for regional organization in particular and the international community at large.

In this way, the minister appealed to participants to welcome favorably the recommendations of the strategic assessment missions on the need to implement within the UNOCA specific capabilities for monitoring the evolution of security challenges and electoral processes in Central Africa, and the inclusion of human rights and greater participation of women in regional peace and security programs.

He argued that “together and aware of the importance of the task assigned us know shorten the way to go to build global confidence through dialogue and understanding, and make it safer.”

They attended the 40th ministerial meeting of the Standing Advisory Committee of the United Nations, Burundi, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Congo Brazzaville, Cameroon, Rwanda, DRC, CAR, Angola, Sao Tome and Principe and Chad.
