Abuja – Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has actually clarified how his predecessor, Solomon Arase, apparently left with scores of vehicles when he retired from service
According to a Punch report, Idris stated that Arase had left the service with 24 vehicles, while seven Deputy Inspectors-General carted away between seven and eight vehicles each when they left alongside him.
Claiming that he had previously written to Arase to plead with him to return the vehicles, which include two bullet-proof BMW 7 Series cars, Idris revealed that no vehicles have been given back from those who retired with these cars linked to their names.
Explaining that the revelation came about as the result of a special investigation into the records of police vehicle purchases within the last three years, Idris claimed that more probes into the conduct of those enlisted in the police service would be conducted.
Arase has since dismissed Idris’ claims, stating that the allegations are merely malicious propaganda and that Idris should rather face security issues affecting Nigerians instead of getting involved in “media propaganda”, The Cablereports.
“What am I going to do with 24 cars? Do I want to open a car shop? This is a malicious accusation. There are ways of verifying issues rather than engaging in media propaganda,” Arase was quoted as saying.
