Africa’s efforts to help with the free activity of people on the continent will on Sunday be enhanced by the issuance of an African passport.
African leaders and high ranking African Union (AU) diplomats will be issued with the African passport at the AU leaders summit currently underway in the Rwandan capital Kigali.
The objective is to spur continental economic growth and promote intra-African trade.
Rwanda is spearheading the initiative. The country’s Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo says, “Our strategic thinking is that the fear of insecurity should not stop Africans from moving freely from one country to another. Security must not be an impediment.”
