Lusaka – Academics at Zambia’s Copperbelt University (CBU) have slammed the Patriotic Front (PF) government for carelessness and inadequate management of universities, reportsThe Post.
This came after the Zambian government closed two of its top universities after students went on a rampage to protest non-payment of food and book allowances earlier this month.
One of the lecturers at CBU, Dr Kawunga Nyirenda, accused Higher Education Minister Michael Kaingu of lying about paying student allowances.
“I sometimes wonder why Kaingu has to go to an extent of telling lies. The man is a big liar. He had not paid the students prior to those confusions. He paid them on the day of the confusion and the following day, he closed the universities,” Nyirenda said.
The lecturers demanded a few weeks ago that the institutions be reopened.
The lecturers slammed the government for its failure to tackle issues affecting students.
