A Bungoma County MP has appealed to women from the region to contest for the area Senate seat which will be vacant in 2017 after the current office holder, Moses Wetang’ula goes for Presidency.
Bungoma Women Representative, Reginalda Wanyonyi said a woman should inherit the seat of Senator Moses Wetang’ula who last weekend launched his bid for the most powerful seat in the country at Muliro gardens in Kakamega.
“Now that Wetang’ula has declared he is in the race for State House, women should not shy away from offering their candidature for the seat that will fall vacant in 2017,” said Dr Wanyonyi.
Out of the 47 elected senators in the country, none of them is a woman. Political parties in the country were forced to nominate 18 women senators to meet the two thirds gender rule.
