Activities at the oldest busy Macknon market in Mombasa came to a standstill on Friday mid-morning after a middle aged woman threatened to commit suicide.
The Woman which climbed to the roof top of the market which was recently refurbished by the National Youth Service – NYS and officially reopened by President Uhuru Kenyatta in August this year yelled to the onlookers who begged her to descend but in vain.
The Woman said that she has faced a lot of life problems and could not make ends meet and was only begging the lord to take Her away from the world.
“Leave me alone , I should die am tired of this miserable life” retorted the Woman from the Maasai Community.
However, Mombasa County fire and emergency response team arrived at the scene which attracted very many onlookers completely blocking the busy Digo road.
Mombasa County Head of Inspector rate Charles Changawa and the Head of Disaster management Naheed Musa begged the Women to come down who finally did.
“We should not condemn the Woman, let her climb down then we will question her, she must be going through a lot in her head” Said Naheed.
The Woman later descended and was quickly rescued by police to a waiting police van after locals wanted to punish her.
She is being interrogated at the Central Police station a waiting to be charged in court for attempting to kill herself
