An eight years old boy is recuperating at the Webuye childrens encouragement centre after he was severely cut by his grandmother on the head using a slasher.
Calistus Simiyu from sweet waters estate in Webuye town was cut by his grandmother Mary Nasambu on the head on Wednesday morning after he allegedly failed to tie the shoe laces of his younger brother as they were about to leave for school.
Simiyu who is a class three pupil at a local primary school in Webuye town was then forced by his grandmother to leave for school while bleeding profusely.
Residents of Webuye town who spotted the boy bleeding and writhing in pain rescued him and took him to Webuye County hospital where he was treated and his wounds stitched.
The residents then went after the seventy years old granny threatening to lynch her before taking her to Webuye police station.
The locals accused the culprit who is a vegetable vendor at Lions place for the bizarre incident while hurling insults at her.
‘’We are wondering what type of a woman is this who can cut her grandson on the head with a slasher and inflict all that pain on her head, this must be a devil in the form of a human being,” said
The residents said that the woman must be jailed to serve as an example to other women with such behaviours.
The woman was later on arraigned at Webuye law courts where she pleaded to assaulting the boy.
Nasambu told resident magistrate Stella Abuya that she was only disciplining the boy who had stolen four hundred shillings from her purse.
She said that she punished the boy for stealing the money and accused him for stealing from her several times ever since he came to live with her and not as the boy claimed that he was cut for not tying his younger brothers shoe laces.
She said that she has stayed with the boy and his three other siblings after they were brought to her care by the parents who live in Malaba town in Busia County early this year.
The woman was released on a one hundred thousand bond or surety of the similar amount or a cash fine of fifty Thousands shillings.
The case will be heard on the 27th of July and mentioned on the 13th of April.
