Traffic police officers have invented new ways of collecting bribes from the public.
This was revealed by National Police Service Chairman Johnston Kavuludi during the Coast traffic police vetting at Kenya School of Government in Mombasa.
“So far, we have reports that traffic officers have devised new methods of collecting money from the public including using touts,” he said.
Kavuludi said that the touts collect money and then meet with the traffic officers at specific garages where the money exchanges hands.
“The touts are strategically positioned at bus stages in places where cars are serviced. The money said to be fee for plying a certain route is given to the touts who remit it to the officers later.”
