Adam Johnson, a late ice hockey player, had planned to propose to her before his untimely death.
According to family friends, Ryan Wolfe’s fiancée discovered the engagement ring he intended to use to propose to her at their apartment in England.
On October 28, the 29-year-old American ice hockey star was killed when a skate slit his throat during a collision between the Nottingham Panthers and the Sheffield Steelers.
But it has now been revealed that he planned to propose to Wolfe, 24, after informing her of his intentions following the discovery of the ring.
‘He showed her (Johnson’s grandma) the ring before he went, and he was planning to propose at some point,’ Scott Pionk, whose son played college hockey with Johnson, said USA Today.
They’re also stating that a second Johnson family acquaintance who wishes to remain unnamed validated Pionk’s story.
Wolfe and Johnson had been dating for nearly a year when he allegedly purchased the ring before moving to England for his ice hockey career.
Last week, she delivered an emotional eulogy at his funeral in Minnesota, referring to him as her ‘everything.’
‘You’ve been so incredibly supportive and wonderful to me since the day we met,’ she remarked, her sister by her side.
‘And I couldn’t have been more grateful for it. I always thought that maybe if I was lucky enough, after a lifetime together, that I might start to be more like you.
‘You’re such a special person, you have the best sense of humor, the biggest heart, the quickest wit and the kindest soul. You’re unbelievably loyal, dedicated and smart. You’re so, so smart.
‘Whether it came to school or life in general, you just seem to have it all figured out, which gave me so much peace and comfort, and made me feel like we could do anything, or be anything, and we’d be OK. We’d be happy.’
